Included in this compendium are the files and code used to analyze and create the visualizations that accompany the article. How to re-run the code: 1. Using R, the corpus can be re-created from the Creating_the_Corpus.Rmd file. This file contains the steps used to scrape the text of the treaties from the Kappler Project website and separate the text into paragraphs. Because the website has changed formats and the code used to scrape the text will no longer run, a zipfile (treaties.htm) with the scraped files is also included. 2. Once the corpus is created, the Creating_Visualizations.Rmd file contains the rest of code needed to re-create the visualizations. In order to run the code that uses the geolocation data, it is necessary to load another file called indian_treaties_geo – sheet1 (3).csv. This spreadsheet contains the geolocation data and usage rights information for each treaty.
